The Trinidad City Council will receive a report tonight from the Trinidad Rancheria on its proposed hotel development project, which would consist of building a large Hyatt-brand hotel next to the Cher-Ae Heights Casino.
The project has stirred up some public concerns about potential environmental and other impacts, particularly from a community group — the Humboldt Alliance for Responsible Planning (HARP). An email sent out to all HARP members states that the project includes new design changes, which have not been made fully public and do not address some of the concerns raised by the group.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) has informed the Coastal Commission that the hotel is ready to go and requested a determination hearing. In response, commission staff have requested an extension until the commission's Northern California meeting in August.
The reason for this request, the commission states in a letter to the BIA, is to enable public participation is the hearing. The commission also requests the delay because of the design changes, which will require additional assessment of the project's impacts. You can read the full letter below.
